The Zoo....no, not the one at home!

Last Friday, Savannah was out of school so we went to the zoo. They have this new thing where you can pay $2 to feed the giraffes. It's really cool and we've wanted to go for awhile. We watched them build it and planned to go when it opened, but unfortunately, my annual pass ran out last July, right in the middle of all our construction and I didn't have the funds to renew. By the time it actually opened, we had like 2 days to go before the pass ran out. So, needless to say, we didn't make it.

Well, on Friday we finally went to feed the giraffes! Ashton missed it because she had to babysit at the last minute, but I took the other 3 children. First, let me say, the giraffes are at the whole other end of the zoo. And, in order to get there you have to walk a looooong way or ride the monorail thing. But, the monorail thing is $3 per person! So, of course we walked. Luckily, I've been to the zoo waaaay too many times, which allows me to know some shortcuts, so we took 'em. Upon arrival at the giraffes, the camp group of about 25 kids who had just passed us a couple minutes earlier were in front of us in line. We even debated going, since we figured the giraffes would be full after that many kids. But, finally we decided to get in line. And, as predicted, while we were in line, the one giraffe who was eating decided he was full and walked away. Bummer. So, we just kept standing there, waiting for another one to show up. Finally, the camp group moved on and we went to the top of the ramp thing just to look out over the giraffe area. They were way over yonder, but we did see some ostriches, who are in the same area. So, that was cool. As a side note, this must be mating season, cuz we saw and awful lot of potential and actual hanky panky going on. Namely, we saw the ostriches. Savannah and I knew what was going on, but the boys thoguht they were playing. We just agreed with them and smiled. But, boy, isn't it just fascinating seeing animals mating? I think God is so amazing and has such an imagination when I see stuff like that. Just too cool.

Anyhoo, moving on....we finally gave up on the giraffes and walked to the end of the zoo path to see the elephants. Then, we wandered back past the giraffes and there were two of them there! So, we got in line behind about 10 people, but we still managed to feed them....Yeah! Here's some pictures. Look how close they got!!

Savannah tried to help Levi reach the giraffe, but I think Levi was a little intimidated by such a big thing so close to him! lol

They finally got to actually pet the giraffe. They really liked that, except afterwards, their hands smelled bad. But, overall, feeding the giraffes was a big hit. We'll have to go do it again and take Ashton this time. :-)
