Hi Everyone! Just a quick note....
I've been meaning to put this on, but getting ready for our regular routine has really thrown me off! You know, I never really appreciated the Christmas break time, but boy, having Savannah in school this year has really made me appreciate the break! I loved it! And, worse, I began dreading the regular routine starting back up again. I usually look forward to that, but not this time. I could feel the dread, like a revving up of an engine getting ready for the race, welling up in me last Thursday. I think that was the worst day, but I'm ok now. We're starting school (all the kids), baseball, church activities, park group, and co-op. It can really get overwhelming if you stop (and slow down) to think about it. Fortunately, I don't stop....or slow down....to think about it. I just go. I guess that can be good or bad. I don't know, but I'm ok for now. :-)
Ok, for the title of this post...verse of the year. I read on someone else's blog that each year they ask the Lord to give them a verse for the year, which I happened to think was a great idea! So, I asked, too, and got this one. I Corinthians 13:4a "Love suffereth long and is kind..." This has actually been my heart's desire for a long time. I want to be more patiend (don't we all), but more so, I want to be kind. Specifically, I want to speak more kindly to my children. I find myself speaking in an irritated tone more often than not, and I don't want them to remember me that way. I want them to remember that I was kind, not only to others, but to them. So, the Lord laid this verse on my heart and I'm quoting it when I feel like yelling. Actually, a bigger problem I have is self control, which is where this other problem stems from. So, it's giving me an exercise in self-control to stop and think before I speak and remember to speak kindly. It's actually worked, too! I've stopped a few times, mid-sentence, to change my tone of voice...and sometimes my actual words. So, I think it's working. We'll see how long it takes for it to become a part of me, but hey, I'm a work in progress, right? But, the sooner it takes, the sooner I can work on the next area! :-)

I love the fresh start feeling of the New Year. I too, am one who asks the Lord for a "theme" every year. Sometimes it is one word, like "honor" and usually a verse to go with it.
But I have to confess, as I read your blog, I realized it was January 9th, and I've yet to do that. I was suprised at my laid back attitude. This is something I usually do in the first couple days of the new year. Yikes! Maybe that is what I need to work on this year.
Thanks for sharing a timely message.
